It's V-Ganuary! Ethical Ways to Care for Your V

The buzz of New Year’s Eve has vanished and as the hangover subsides and the harsh reality of January sets in, most of us will be starting to follow through with the positive pledges we made to better ourselves (even if it only lasts for the first month of this century’s roaring twenties). Whether you're planning to do more lifting, less scrolling or master the praying mantis pose, it's important to think about how you can extend your self care commitments to the environment. It’s well known that going vegan is one of the best things you as an individual can do for the planet so why not give it a whirl this January. Having a plant-based diet is not only a great way to care for the planet but your V will thank you too! Here are some foods to include this January for a healthy lady garden and a happy planet. 

There is an unbelievable range of foods out there that are beneficial not only for your health, but especially for your health down there. Cranberries and sugar-free cranberry juice will help you stay hydrated and tackle a potential UTI, but did you know they are also great at keeping your vaginal pH intact?

Struggling with lubrication? Swap your dairy-rich butter for a plant-based spread, as they contain Omega-3 that promote better circulation and blood flow, which can help you out when things aren’t working and it’s not exactly the Niagara Falls down there. Other foods that are rich in Omega 3 are flax and chia seeds (which are also great for replacing eggs when mixed with water!), walnuts, and soybeans. Research has even shown that these fatty acids can alleviate menstrual pains and cramping!

An apple a day certainly won’t keep your orgasms at bay! Besides being scrumptious when smothered in peanut butter and being another great egg-replacement when made into applesauce, apples contain phytoestrogen – a compound is said to promote better sexual function, arousal, lubrication, and ability to orgasm. Phytoestrogens can be found in many other fruits and veg as well as grains like barley or oats and pulses like lentils and chickpeas!

And then, of course, our favourite food: aphrodisiacs! While the most commonly known aphrodisiac is oysters (no thank you), there are plenty more that are vegan. Maca, known as the Peruvian natural Viagra, is a superfood root is rich in magnesium and fibre and is known to increase fertility and libido.Pumpkin can help calm your nerves and muscles while increasing stamina with the high amounts of potassium and magnesium it contains. Figs not only look saucy, but they are rich in amino acids that help boost sex stamina and libido, too.Chillies are known for their firepower, but did you know that even extends to the bedroom? They can increase the release of endorphins as well as adrenaline. Alternatively eating a banana while making eye contact always works a charm.

What you put in your mouth is equally as important as what products you put on your body. We get that it’s easier said than done, so if you’re not ready to go full-on vegan this January, then start off small – invest in a menstrual cup instead of buying tampons, buy an eco-friendly sex toy that is plastic-free, or buy some reusable cotton pads.
